Glycine is a natural amino acid found in large amounts in collagen. Because of its sweet taste without aftertaste, it is also suitable for sweetening foods/drinks. It is heat-stable, so it can be used in cakes and hot drinks. Its sweetness is roughly the same as that of ordinary granulated sugar.

Glycine is the amino acid present in the greatest amount in collagen-type proteins. In other protein sources it occurs only in small amounts. Nowadays we eat far less collagen-type protein than our ancestors, since trotter stew, bone broth, aspic, tripe and similar dishes are no longer very fashionable. The proportion of amino acids from our protein intake has therefore shifted significantly. (For example, glycine has decreased relative to the others.) This was not characteristic during our evolution, so the suspicion arises that this may have harmful consequences. The beneficial effects of glycine supplementation also reinforce this suspicion.

Recommended use: We recommend consuming between 3-15 g daily. Before bedtime, suck on 3 grams, or sip 4-5 grams dissolved in 1 dl of lukewarm-warm water. This helps you fall asleep faster, reduces the number of awakenings and provides more restful sleep. On average, consuming 4-5 grams before, during or after a meal improves the rise in blood sugar. In addition, if there were no collagen-type proteins in a given meal, 1 teaspoon or demitasse spoon of glycine consumed afterwards helps balance the proportion of amino acids taken in through diet. There is no point in consuming more than 5 grams at once, and in addition, higher doses may cause loose stools in sensitive people.

Many people also use it for sweetening. It can be mixed into coffee or any liquid, and baked into cakes. It has a pleasant sweet taste without aftertaste, but taken directly into the mouth it is almost too sweet.

When measuring with the GAL dosing spoon, the powder should always reach the rim at the end of the spoon head, and the level of the powder spread horizontally should reach the point shown on the handle in the figure. After the scooping motion, you can reduce any excess to the desired level by gentle tapping. After a try or two it becomes an easy routine.

Shelf life: After opening, always close the product carefully, so it remains edible for half a year.
